Efficiency measurement using Data Envelopment Analysis combined with Principal Component Analysis
نویسنده
چکیده
Frontier analysis methods, such as Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), seek to investigate the technical efficiency of productive systems which employ input factors to deliver outcomes. In economic literature one can find extreme opinions about the role of input/output systems in assessing performance. For instance, it has been argued that if all inputs and outputs are included in assessing the efficiency of units under analysis, then they will all be fully efficient. Discrimination can be increased, therefore, by being parsimonious in the number of factors. To deal with this drawback, we suggest to employ Principal Component Analysis (PCA) in order to aggregate input and output data. In this context, the aim of the present paper is to evaluate the performance of an Italian airline for 2004 by developing a model based upon PCA and DEA techniques.

متن کاملMeasuring Technical Efficiency of Hospitals affiliated with Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences, Using a Combination Method Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) – Principle Component Analysis (PCA)
Background: Measuring the efficiency of hospitals due to the high proportion of budget allocated to them on the one hand, and the need to ensure the best practices regarding the use of scarce resources on the other hand, is of particular importance. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the technical efficiency of the affiliated hospitals of Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences by using...
متن کاملAssessment of Cost Effectiveness of a Firm Using Multiple Cost Oriented DEA and Validation with MPSS based DEA
Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a nonparametric tool for discriminating the best performers from a number of homogenous Decision Making Units (DMU). Cost oriented DEA models identify those best DMUs which run cost efficient process. This paper validates the outcome derived from the Ideal Frontier (mentioned in Sarkar. S (2014)) derived from non-central Principal Component Analysis and a slac...
متن کاملEfficiency Measurement of Bank Branches with Undesirable Output Using Non-Radial Models of Data Envelopment Analysis
Today, banks, as intermediaries, seek to attract and allocate resources to obtain greater benefit. Therefore, the bank assessment is considered as an important subject in the banking industry. Data envelopment analysis is an effective technique in evaluating the efficiency of decision-making units. There are factors among banking indices (such as receivables from resource allocation) that are i...
